On the Buffalo Bills helmet, what does the red stripe on the buffalo stand for?

Buffalo Bills used to only have a red buffalo on their helmets. They added a stripe, scarf, banner or something to it. What does it signify?

1. Its a cashmere scarf It means the buffalo has a cold neck, and so they have accommodated said buffalo
2. I don't think that it signifies anything. But I could be wrong.
3. Streak lines. To make the Bills go faster :D
4. It signifies a cooler logo. Probably makes it fit better with their uniforms and helmets, since the stripe is red if I'm not mistaken.
5. It doesn't signify anything....it's just a different design
